Capital Region Tourism, the regional tourism partnership for South East Wales, has made a grant of £2,000 to St Woolos Cathedral to support its 2008 Flower Festival.
Welcoming the grant, Fr Mark Soady, the Cathedral’s Media Group Chair said,”We are grateful to CRT for this grant which will enable us to better promote St Woolos in particular and Newport in general as a destination for Tourists. It is important that we do not lose sight of the need to promote this outstanding building, while trying to restore it”.
CRT’s Project Manager Viv Wilfred said “Churches, chapels and cathedrals represent a vital part of the heritage offer for visitors. We are delighted to be able to support St Woolos’ plans to attract a wider range of visitors to the region. ”
The Flower Festival, organised by the National Flower Arranging Societies of South Wales and the Borders, rotates each year around different Cathedrals and large churches. This year’s Festival at Hereford Cathedral, which has just finished had 5,000 visitors a day. The St Woolos Festival, November 28th-30th 2008, under the title “Joy to the world” will have around 75 arrangements with a Christmas theme.
As a result of this grant the Appeal website is being redesigned.
