With over 2000 visitors a day expected to descend on the Cathedral for the Gala Festival of Flowers in November plans are well under way.
Under the title Joy to the World over 80 displays with a Christmas theme have been designed. Next month flower arrangers from across South Wales and the West Country will be visiting the Cathedral to design their displays.
Among the displays will be the Twelve Days of Christmas - a well known song but with a less well known history. The song was originally written as a way of teaching Catholics their faith during the time Tudor persecutions.
On a lighter note popular Pantomimes will be represented, among them: Jack and the Beanstalk and Cinderella. Other displays will recall favourite Christmas carols (While Shepherds watched, Star of Wonder, Star of Light, In the bleak midwinter), as well as Christmas traditions like exchanging presents.
Admission to the Festival which will run from November 27th - 30th is £5, or £4 for groups of 10 or more.
