Lord’s Event Raises Thousands for Cathedral Appeal

Over 160 people gathered at Lords cricket ground recently for a black tie £80-a-head dinner to raise funds for Newport’s Cathedral.

After a reception in the Long Room and Pavilion and a Lecture on The Chemistry for a Good Life by Dr Mary Archer guests set down to a three course dinner.

After Dinner Dr Archer’s husband Lord (Geoffrey) Archer of Weston-Super-Mare raised over £12,000 for the Appeal in an Auction. Among the items auctioned was a £4,000 stay for 4 people for two nights at the Celtic Manor Resort and a days cricket coaching from Wazim Khan and Mike Gatting.

Catherine Hayman Appeal Administrator said, “Our first fundraising venture outside Gwent as proved to be an amazing success”.

This takes the Appeal Total to £378,000
